It was a red and yellow lamp with Lightning McQueen
on the front. It had a lamp, but also had a clock and radio. I was nine years old when it was given to me.
It was my birthday party, but I don’t know who gifted it to me. I had a big party that year. All you could hear were kids running around
and people laughing. Out of the speakers
are cumbias and nortenas. I didn’t open
the gifts that night because I was so tired. The next morning, I woke up and I
was excited to open the gifts. I was
given one hundred pesos and this one gift.
When I opened it, I thought it was a box of bee bees or legos. I was surprised when it was a lamp. When I
got home, I placed the lamp next to my bed and I used it for three years.
In this picture I see my mother and two ladies. They
are sitting on a brown patterned sofa. I am sitting on my mother’s lap. I’m staring at something behind my mom, but I
don’t know what it is. We are at a baby
shower and my mom is opening presents. My mom was pregnant with my little
brother at the time. This is one of the only photos I have of my mom. My mother
passed on when I was about to turn three years old. I was told that she crashed on a
freeway. My brother was only a couple of
months old. I don’t remember a lot about
my mom. A great deal of mystery surrounds her. I want to know her personality,
what she liked, her relationship with my father. If I could go back in time, I would ask her
to stay so that I could make new memories with her. For now, I keep this photo.
Song: Le Compre la muerte a Mi Hijo
By: Beto Quintanilla
This
song is by the king of corridos, Beto Quintanilla. It teaches parents to not
give kids everything because they can take advantage. For example, in the video
he gives his kid a new car and he dies in a crash. This song brings memories of my dad because
he hears them when he’s with his friends.
I remember him going to his ice chest where he gets a beer and hangs out
with his friends. My step mom would get mad when I would hang around my dad’s
friends.
